Our cars are a huge part of our life. We use them to get to work, to run errands, to go on vacation, and to cruise around. It’s important to pay attention to what your car is telling you because one little problem can cause a huge accident if you aren’t careful.
Oil Light
When coming to a sudden stop or taking a long sweeping curve, like a freeway on-ramp, you may notice the oil pressure light goes on briefly. This may be a sign that the engine is low on oil. If you see this, check the oil level and if low, add oil until it is at the full mark. If you notice any ‘unusual engine noises’ make a note so you can talk about them at the next service. However, if there is a noise that is getting louder and louder then it is time to stop and have it towed.
Coolant Light
When the coolant warning light is on, your engine is in danger of overheating, which means you won’t have a car anymore. If you top it off and the light goes back on, you may have a leak. This is something that you should have checked out by a mechanic. They will be able to figure out if your sensor is malfunctioning or if you actually have a problem.
Malfunction Indicator
If the malfunction indicator or check engine light comes on solid and stays on while the engine is running, it’s not the end of the world. It means that somewhere in the engine management system something isn’t the way it’s supposed to be, so have it checked soon. If your car starts having performance issues or the light is on and flashing, this is a pretty serious sign. You should take your care directly to the mechanic.
Battery Warning
It is normal for the warning light for the charging system to come on when the car is turned on before the engine is started. When the engine is started the light should go out. If the battery warning light comes on while driving this would mean that the car is running out of battery and the car cannot continue driving for much longer. The car will have to be checked out before it leaves you stranded.
Manufacturer’s Notices
This isn’t going to show up in your car, but you do need to pay attention to any manufacturer’s notices. Sometimes there will be a recall of part of your car or a notice that something is malfunctioning. According to Brauns Law, malfunctioning car parts are one of the major causes of accidents, so don’t keep driving if there is a recall issued. Get that fixed as soon as possible so you don’t end up in a bad situation.
Whether it’s the warning lights in the dash or how the car ‘feels’ while driving, it’s important to stay on top of your car’s performance while driving. This is what keeps you safe and mobile, so don’t just brush it off.

An internal short or defective battery can trigger the battery to slip gas. If you noticed a smell of eggs rotten each time you get the hood opened, a slipping battery might be guilty of the issue. Consider checking your battery immediately and get a new battery if there is a need to replace it. Have your new used car
