Why We Need Winter Tires?

There are different types of tires that we should use for our cars. Winter tires are ideal for slushy, snowy and icy road surfaces. However, many people stick to all weather tires, regardless of the season or weather. However, we need to dispel the myth that all weather tires are perfect for any condition. When the situation is extreme enough, we should be aware that these tires may not be suitable. They could be under the assumption that winter tires are suitable only for arctic conditions or when the road is under many inches of thick snow. In general, winter tires are needed when our cars require better traction to gain proper handling in winter conditions. Winter tires are essential superior rubber that provides us with excellent traction.

Winter tires have soft studs, but in snow and ice surfaces, they could bite like metal studs. It means that road, pavement and driveway won’t be harmed by winter tires. Even when the temperature reaches zero degrees, the flexibility of rubber can be maintained, due to the special compound. If the tire wall remains pliabl;e and rubbery, tires will still have enough traction and control. The rubber compound of winter tires has micro pores that are based on silica. This will allow the surface of the tire to bute through the cold water film on the icy road surface. It means that that suitable traction can be maintained on snowy or icy surface. On the other hand, all weather tires provide good traction on normal road and many other road conditions.

Winter tires also often have special thread that offers better traction on slushy and icy surfaces. It means that we should be able to get quieter and more comfortable ride. Compared to normal all weather tires, the thread could be 35 percent deeper on winter threads. These tires should be able to provide better gtip. Special lug and groove shape should allow more snow enter the thread and then expelled. For roads with deep snow, we should be able to obtain better traction. We should also be able to get sophisticated and high density spine design. All weather tires should have more improved contact with the road. To further improve the traction, there should also be rounder casing design that can cut into the surface of the snowy road.

Cornering is also easier to achieve with winter tires when the road is incredibly icy and slushy. Even so, because the road is very slippery, it is still important to ensure that we drive very slowly. This will make sure that studs can grip into the icy surface. All weather tires have flatter tread designs, which improve traction on dry surface. In general, winter tires are based on sophisticated technology and they should be quieter in icy roads. If our area is affected by winter, we should consider whether winter tires are a necessity. However, when it gets warmer and the road is dry, we need to replace the winter tires with the all weather tires to prevent wear and tear. Winter tires can be stored and used again for the next winter.
