Lily Brookstone, the daughter of a workaholic United States Senator, defies her father’s wishes by moving to Los Angeles in pursuit of a dancing career. But the tough town hasn’t been easy on her, and after two years she finds herself disowned by her father, dropped by her agent, and recovering from a dance injury. Determined to live her life independently without relying on others, Lily refuses to give up her dream of making it as a dancer and instead works herself ragged at three different jobs to make ends meet. Serving coffee and teaching dance classes to pre-schoolers are ordinary enough day jobs, but Lily dons a disguise when she works the late shift as an exotic dancer at a topless strip club.
Raised to be fiercely independent and hesitant to trust, at first she keeps her “”night job”" a secret from her new beau, Marc Sloane, a tough L.A.P.D. Officer with an uncanny knack for reading people. But her cover is blown when Marc attends a bachelor party at Lily’s strip club and recognizes her.
Realizing that she has a chance at true love and knowing that her life is in danger from the threat of her stalker, Lily must not only trust Marc to keep her exotic dancing job a secret, but she must also trust him to protect both her life and her heart.

Review:
This is a book that is about a young woman, Lily, who has to make ends meet and takes a less than desirable job as a dancer in a strip joint. We have all met those women. I actually met a woman in college who tried out for a dancing position at a strip bar and she knew the bar owner. She said she felt confident enough for the first time to try out and dance naked in front of people. But her reasons for doing this audition were simple; I am all I need to prove to the world that I am somebody. However, in this story, she the main character is in need of some extra cash and this was an easy way of doing it and they accommodated her desire to not do private lap dances and only do stage dances and private shows where they don’t touch her.
As she is working one of the patrons becomes obsessed with her. He begins to believe that he can protect her from all the bad things around her. He knows her routine, where she lives, and her personal information and has her under surveillance. He even enlists the aid of someone who works there, Nikki, to watch over her. Except that a police officer who befriends Lily, falls in love with her becomes her personal body guard and her eventual love interest.
The story ends with her stalker being caught and arrested and her being safe with her family.
I absolutely love this story. I like the story line, I like the description, I like the people and the characterization, I like the scenery, I like the pace and I like the ending. First I think her descriptions are on point. For instance, on page 81 she says the following:
“He scanned the crowds surreptitiously looking for anyone who stuck out or seemed familiar. It was a busy Saturday night. There were about 5 men and a handful of women in the club, plus two bartenders, a busboy, a DJ in the booth, and three bouncers, no counting Jay outside. Marc spotted five dancers, one on stage and four on the floor offering lap dances and private showings in the curtained areas at the edges and the club floors. ”
Second I think she gives you a good foreshadowing of what will happen at the end of the novel. On page 83 she says from the character of Marc: ”He figured her stalker was most likely a staff member or a regular who came to the club alone.”
Throughout the story you see Lily and Marc’s relationship develop into a romance. For example you see her become stronger and more assured of her worth. “And yet here she was. She had bared almost all her secrets to a man she hardly knew. And was now considering risking at all by accepting his offer to move in with him. It wouldn’t just be her living situation state. She’d also be wagering her heart.” P 136
When he, the stalker- a regular, finally makes his move to pick her up and kidnap her by using Nikki and drugging her, she is rescued by Marc. You see and accept her feelings of love as she does when she says, “She opened her heart and forced the dark, bitter emotions out, and welcoming in their place Marc’s warm, loving energy.” P 151. And when it is all over, she is in love with a man who will protect her and who will show her all the love she needs.
I recommend this book to read. I recommend the author to read as well. This was an EXCELLENT read.
