After seventeen-year-old Thais Allard loses her widowed father in a tragic car accident, she is forced to leave the only home she’s ever known to live with a total stranger in New Orleans. New Orleans greets Thais with many secrets and mysteries, but none as unbelievable as the moment she comes face to face with the impossible — an identical twin, Clio. Thais soon learns that she and the twin she never knew come from a family of witches, that she possesses astonishing powers, and that she, along with Clio, has a key role in Balefire, the coven she was born into. Fiery Clio is less than thrilled to have to share the spotlight, but the twins must learn to combine their powers in order to complete a rite that will transform their lives and the coven forever.
Review:
So I was wandering through the book store one afternoon and I find this collection of 4 books in one omnibus. The title is Balefire and it is the four books in Cate Tiernan’s balefire series. I figured I would give it a go and see where the pages led me.
I decided as I finished the first book A Chalice of Wind that I would review each book individually, partially because I am enjoying them so much that I don’t want to wait to share them with you. So here we are.
A Chalice Of wind is the story of two young woman, twins who have no idea that they have a sister let alone a twin until the first day of school when they meet face to face. Complicate that with the boy of their dreams, a coven of immortal witches and a spell they are supposed to help cast that may kill one of them and things get very complicated very fast.
I absolutely love this story. The first book flows well, has great characters, I still want to punch Luc, and is filled with great visuals and interesting adventures.
My favorite character so far is a tossup between Ouida and Petra, though Petra makes a sudden departure that leaves her out of the climax of the first book. Ouida is one of the witches, she is nice to the girls and honestly seems to care about them.
A Chalice of Wind is a great beginning to this series. It draws the reader in and the pages just keep turning.
This is one book You Need To Read. And now off to dive into book two A Circle Of Ashes.
