Soap Villains: Characters we love to hate
They’re ruthless and powerful, conniving and dastardly. And we love them for it. Every good story needs an antagonist, and Soap Operas are no exception. These characters stir up trouble with every chance they get and keep the so-called good guys on their toes.
One of my favorite villains is the delightfully evil Helena Cassadine fromGeneralHospital. Is there anything that woman won’t do? She cursed the famous Luke and Laura on their wedding day! Kidnappings, murder, faked deaths: Helena has done all that, and more. I remember back in 1999 when Luke and Laura’s son Lucky “died” in a fire and we learned that he was really kidnapped by Helena for revenge! Delicious! Oh, I love to hate her but can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
Boxer Falls has our own version of Helena. In fact, we have two characters who seem to be competing to replaceHelenaas my “worst-best Villain ever”. Trip Whitlock strolls into town with a chip on his shoulder and the illustrious Cotten family in his crosshairs. He sticks it to his archrival Oz Cotten by seducing Oz’s father, Conrad. And he has the video tape to prove it.
He’s even gone so far as to hire a private investigator to dig up the dirt on his enemies. Of course, since he found the poor guys body, Trip has had to change plans. Who knows what he’s up to next, but he’s sure to let us know. That is, if he survived the crash…
No worries, though. If Trip doesn’t survive, Sam Kabir is waiting in the wings to take over as Villain of the Year. He’s brought Rider Cotten to his knees already (literally…oh my) and now he’s got Zach Boxer taking a walk on the dark side. He’s also mixed up in the blackmail of our favorite town sweetheart, Adam. No one knows what Sam is really after, but we know it can’t be good!
