Where do you hail from and what do you love most about your hometown? I live in a small town outside Winnipeg, Manitoba. I love the big yard for my kids to play in and they have great schools here.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to write, but ended up a competitive gymnastics coach for quite a few years first!
Tell us about your latest book. Rebound and The Perfect Score are the first two books in the Love and Balance series. I combined my love for the sport with romances about coaches finding love. Secrets and Desires of the Heart is a sexy, romantic/erotic poetry collection. Readers will surely find something in there they like.
Do you have anything new in the works and can you tell us a bit about it? I have a sweet, romantic short out with Secret Cravings Publishing as well – Lost in Her Mind. It will be available from their Sweet Cravings site.
Is there anything you find particularly challenging about writing?
What advice would you give to writers just starting out? What was told to me: Never give up. Keep learning – whether it’s from other writers or about the craft itself, or marketing/promotion tips, there is always something new to learn and share.
Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? Not really, but sometimes I’m so busy with my kids that the flow of a story can get interrupted for a few days. If so, what do you do about it? I don’t do anything but chill out. I trust I’ll get back into it when the time is right.
Who is your favorite author and why? I have too many to name and hate to leave anyone out!
What books have most influenced your life? Not necessarily books but authors like Eloisa James, Donna Kauffman, Jo Davis – their writing styles have affected my own because they have the ability to create such fantastic stories.
How did you deal with rejection letters? Try to take it with a grain of salt and learn from the experience. Business isn’t personal. It just made me work harder to be a better writer.
What tools do you feel are must-haves for writers?
Where do you as an author draw the line on gory descriptions and/or erotic content? Well, I don’t do gory but I have some books that are extremely erotic. As one friend and author put it: “Kellie can rock the raunch as well as Chad Kroeger from Nickelback.” She meant it as a compliment, LOL! I write what feels right for the story.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done in the name of research? Huh…nothing I can think of. I have erotic dreams that make their way into my sex scenes though. Does that count?
